The plateau motor is used at an altitude of more than 1000 meters. According to the national industry standard JB/T7573-94 General Technical Conditions for Electrical Products under Plateau Environment, plateau motors are divided into many levels: they are not more than 2000 meters, 3000 meters, 4000 meters and 5000 meters respectively.
What is plateau motor? What are its main characteristics?
The plateau motor is used at an altitude of more than 1000 meters. According to the national industry standard JB/T7573-94 General Technical Conditions for Electrical Products under Plateau Environment, plateau motors are divided into many levels: they are not more than 2000 meters, 3000 meters, 4000 meters and 5000 meters respectively.
The main characteristics of plateau areas are:
1. Low air pressure or air density.
2. The air temperature is low and the temperature changes greatly.
3. The air humidity is low.
3. The solar irradiance is high.
4. Less precipitation.
5. There are many windy days every year.
6. The soil temperature is low and the freezing period is long.
Due to the above reasons, the following adverse effects will be brought to the motor operation, so corresponding measures shall be taken in design and manufacturing:
1. The insulation strength will be reduced by 8-15% for every 1000 meters.
2. The breakdown voltage of the electrical gap decreases, so the electrical gap should be increased according to the altitude.
3. The corona initial voltage is reduced, and the anti-corona measures should be strengthened.
4. The cooling effect of air medium decreases, the heat dissipation capacity decreases, and the temperature rise increases. The temperature rise will increase by 3-10% for every 1000M increase, so the temperature rise limit should be corrected.
The oxygen content in the air at 5000m is only 53% of that at sea level.
Why can't ordinary motors be used on the plateau?
Due to the low air pressure in plateau environment and poor heat dissipation conditions, the loss of the motor will increase and the operating efficiency will decrease. Ordinary motors that are not high altitude specifications can operate well with proper load reduction. Otherwise, the service life and performance of the motor will be affected, or even burned in a short time. Therefore, the rated electromagnetic load and heat dissipation of the motor used in the plateau shall be redesigned according to the operating conditions.
